What makes a market even more fun? Holding it at night. Why? We’re unsure exactly, but something about the evening atmosphere heightens the market experience.

Sydney boasts some of the finest night markets in the country, loved and frequented by locals and tourists alike. You’ll find something unique at a bargain price, from fresh produce to designer creations, while enjoying the market ambience and delicious food stalls. To help you decide where to go, we’ve pulled together the best night markets Sydney can offer, so read on!

The Night Noodle Markets

When it comes to night food markets, Sydney has one sporadic event worth keeping an eye out for. The Night Noodle Markets aren’t a regular feature, but when they happen, you’ll want to be there (check the website for date announcements).

These markets feature a line-up of local legends such as:

Held at Prince Alfred Park, the space becomes a vibrant outdoor Asian street food festival that is dog friendly and the perfect outing for the family or a group of friends.

There is plenty of live entertainment, dragon dancers, and various surprise pop-ups from local brands, so you can shop for more than just great food. They even have a simple QR code ordering system, so the days of lining up are gone! This is one you don’t want to miss.

Paddy's Night Food Markets

While you will find a range of foods from all over the world in Sydney night markets, we think some of the best falls under the category of Asian cuisine. Paddy’s Night Food Markets is one of those, and while you’ll find food choices that cover Indian, Italian, and Amer ican, there are some Asian inspired flavours here that cannot be beaten.

The set-up is usually around 25 food trucks that offer a variety of dishes, starting at snacks, working up to full meals and ending with some tastebud tempting desserts. Paddy’s is open on Saturday nights and is a great spot to gather some friends to catch up over something delicious with a unique atmosphere that beats the standard restaurant hang.

Chinatown Friday Night Market

As we mentioned, the best night markets favour Asian flavours, and one of the best Friday night markets Sydney can offer is the Chinatown Friday Night Market.

Naturally, this one only takes place on Friday nights and only in the month of October. Why? Well, October is Good Food Month in Sydney, and this particular market is part of the ‘Asia On Your Doorstep’ event. The streets are transformed with lanterns that light up stalls with a range of Asian delicacies. From Japan to Vietnam and China, there are many Asian-inspired flavours for diets of all kinds. It is impossible not to find something delicious here, so pop it in the calendar.

This night market takes the idea of amazing market food to a whole other level. Carriageworks Burning Love Night Market is curated by two of Sydney’s finest chefs; Porteño’s Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz. They have pulled in 55 of the finest chefs in the state to create a range of luxury fine dining dishes served market style.

You’ll need to pre-buy a ticket for this one, but once inside, you’ll experience live demonstrations, live music and some of the best food in the country. Keep an eye out for the seafood dishes from Nick Smith of Rising Sun Workshop or John Susman of Fishtales. We particularly recommend the smoked mushroom toastie with cultured cream, salsa verde, and pickled onions that is made by OzHarvest. This is market food like you’ve never experienced before.
